Since its founding in 1899, the VFW has been dedicated to supporting all veterans, helping them heal from visible and invisible wounds, securing compensation for unjust war injuries, and advocating for essential post-war benefits. These benefits have played a crucial role in shaping the American middle class.
The VFW has a rich legacy to be proud of, yet we recognize the call for modernization from veterans of all eras. It’s essential that we adapt to meet the evolving needs of our diverse veteran community. While some may question the VFW’s relevance today, it remains vital; without a fundamental change in our approach and atmosphere, we risk losing this important resource.
Now, more than ever, our community needs the VFW. We stand as a symbol of progress in veterans’ affairs across the United States and provide invaluable benefits to all veterans. While current events may divide the populace, veterans stand outside petty conflicts and continue their service to better our country.
Recently, we secured a new Post home, sparking excitement and a flurry of ideas about how to utilize this space. Despite the challenges many veterans face in engaging with traditional organizations, the need for a physical presence in our communities is more important than ever. These spaces foster connection, allow us to honor our shared commitment to service, and bridge the gap between military and civilian life. That is why we are so thankful our Post is housed at the Elks Lodge #1055 in downtown Longmont, at the heart of the community.
We invite all veterans, regardless of age or service era, to attend our meetings, volunteer when able, and share your thoughts and ideas as we move forward. This is your Post, and your involvement is crucial for enriching our community with your experiences and insights. We can only carry on our programs and support our fellow veterans with your involvement.
Creativity and lasting, lifetime bonds flourish in spaces where we can gather and connect. The future of the VFW depends on us all; we cannot afford to let this opportunity slip away. Let us learn from one another and carry the torch of service forward together.
